Every year, June 5 marks World Environment Day, serving as a wake-up call for humanity to focus on the state of the planet and the profound impact human activities have on the environment. In 2025, the 54th edition of World Environment Day carries an even more significant mission. The global theme is “End Plastic Pollution,” while China’s national theme, “I Lead the Way for Beautiful China” emphasizes collective efforts to protect the Earth’s environment.
On June 5, 1972, the United Nations held the first Human Environment Conference in Stockholm, Sweden, a landmark event in environmental history. The conference adopted the Declaration on the Human Environment and an “Action Plan” for global environmental protection. Representatives from 113 countries and regions, totaling 1,300 delegates, proposed that the opening day of the conference be designated as World Environment Day. In October of the same year, the 27th session of the United Nations General Assembly officially accepted and approved this proposal.
The theme of “I Lead the Way for Beautiful China,” encourages deep engagement with Xi Jinping’s Ecological Civilization Thought, showcasing the achievements of “Beautiful China” pioneer zones across the country and calling on the public to actively contribute to the construction of a Beautiful China.
Protecting the environment is a responsibility for every citizen. We advocate the following actions:
Green and Low-Carbon Travel
Use transportation methods that reduce carbon emissions. These not only conserve resources and reduce pollution but also benefit health and efficiency. Reduce the use of private cars, and prioritize walking, cycling, or public transportation. Choose energy-efficient or new energy vehicles for family use.
Preserve Environmental Hygiene
Protecting the environment from pollution is our collective responsibility. We must earnestly enhance our awareness of conservation, environmental protection, and ecological sustainability, practice green consumption, and consciously cultivate habits of resource conservation. Through these efforts, we will strive to create a clean, comfortable, quiet, and pleasant working and living environment, contributing to the protection and promotion of human health.
Simple, Green, Low-Carbon Lifestyl
Start with small actions in daily life. Avoid using indoor lighting when natural light is sufficient, and turn off electrical devices when not in use. Set air conditioners to not lower than 26°C in summer and not higher than 20°C in winter. Opt for stairs instead of elevators, reuse water, reduce paper use, and choose energy-saving products.
